Sam Rega is a freelance editor, producer and director based in New York and Florida with over 15 years experience in independent documentaries and digital media. He’s available on-site and remotely for producing, editing, post-production supervising and consulting. He specializes in editing feature documentaries using the entire Adobe Creative Suite and is an expert at color correcting and sound mixing with basic animation knowledge. Recently, he was a senior managing producer for CNBC and CNBC Make It, where he oversaw a team of video producers to create content for site, Youtube, Peacock and social channels.

In the summer of 2020, Netflix released his feature documentary "Spelling the Dream". The film chronicles the ups and downs of four Indian-American students, ages 7 to 14, as they compete to realize their dream of winning the Scripps National Spelling Bee and cement their place in the two-decade dynasty of Indian-Americans dominating the iconic competition. It’s available only on Netflix.

In 2018, Sam became the showrunner for “The New Space Race,” a 15 episode, 30 minute live show on Twitter exploring outer space. It gained over five million views across all episodes, one of the most successful live shows produced exclusively for Twitter

In 2016, he directed the documentary “League of Millions” for Business Insider. The film follows a team of professional video game players in their quest for a world championship. He spent three years at Business Insider producing digital news stories.

Prior to moving to New York City, he spent four years with rakontur, the Miami studio known for the “Cocaine Cowboys” documentary series from Billy Corben and Alfred Spellman. He edited the New York City nightclub documentary “Limelight,” the Netflix hit, “Dawg Fight,” that explores the underground boxing scene in Miami as well the VH1 mini-series, “The Tanning of America,” exploring how hip-hop changed our country.

He made his directorial debut in 2008 with “Miami Noir: The Arthur E. Teele Story,” premiering at the Miami International Film Festival and appearing on PBS. The documentary investigates the suicide of Miami politician Arthur E. Teele.

Sam also co-founded and was Chief Creative Officer of a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting filmmakers in South Florida. This was made possible with a $750,000 grant from the John S. and James L. Knight foundation in 2008. Sam grew up in Cape May Point, New Jersey and Sarasota, Florida. He’s a proud alumnus of the University of Miami.
